I qualified in 1985 and have worked continuously in the industry ever since. In addition to teaching learners, I have also spent the last 29 years teaching trainee driving instructors. I was pretty good at it, so I was then asked to train other driving instructors on how to teach trainee driving instructors.
I have many industry qualifications including ADI Grade A, DIA Diamond Advanced Instructor, Cardington Grade A Advanced Driver, NVQ Assessor and Internal Verifier and IAM Advanced Driver.
Most importantly of all, I have the patience of a saint and love working with people who give it their best. All this and an endless supply of bad jokes to boot!

Jo Guthrie
I love driving, it’s my favourite hobby and luckily, one that I excel at! My calm, friendly and patient nature makes me an ideal instructor and working as one has further developed my already good people skills.
I’ve been driving for 28 years and I have a C&G 7307/02 & 0/3. These are both parts of the Further and Adult Education Teachers Certificate.
My other passion is tap dancing, which is great fun! I live in Gosport with my husband of 26 years and my 11-year-old daughter. Before I became an instructor, I was in the nursing industry, working within the community of Portsmouth. This is where I developed my patience, which I now use daily when instructing to put my students at ease.

I have two amazing daughters called Maddie and Lola, who keep me busy! I love sports and to keep fit I play squash, with occasional games in the Hampshire League. My other love is football and I am a life-long fan of Manchester City – I’m not a glory hunter!
